Lala Lajpat Rai Biography and Place in Indian History

Lala Lajpat Rai has a very important place among the extremist leaders of the Congress. Like Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai tried to bring new social and political consciousness in Punjab. The people of Punjab used to fondly call Lala Lajpat Rai as 'Punjab Kesari'. 

LALA LAJPAT RAI BIOGRAPHY
Lala Lajpat Rai was born in 1865 AD in Punjab. His father was a school-inspector. Lala Lajpat was of sharp intellect since childhood. He had great attachment to the ancient Indian civilization and culture. Due to this attachment, he deeply studied ancient knowledge, religion and culture. He was also against foreign rule. His political philosophy was influenced by the philosophy of Dayanand Saraswati. After finishing his education, he actively got involved in politics.

LALA LAJPAT'S PLACE IN INDIAN HISTORY
In 1888 AD, he took the membership of Congress. He was quite dissatisfied with the moderate leaders of the Congress and the policy of begging of the Congress. Like Tilak, she was also a supporter of fierce nationalism. Soon, along with Tilak and Bipinchandra Pal, he formed his own militant group known as Lal-Bal-Pal. These people started opposing the peaceful policies of the conference. As a result, the influence of moderates within the Congress started decreasing and the influence of extremists started increasing. In the Banaras Congress session (1905 AD), the extremists also held a separate meeting in the Congress pandal. Lajpat Rai also participated in it. He said that if 'India wants to get freedom, then it will have to stand on its own feet by abandoning beggary.' 

AWAY FROM CONGRESS 
Lala Lajpat Rai separated from the Congress after the split in the Congress in 1907 AD. Separating from the Congress, in the same year, he launched a massive movement against the "Colonization Act" in Punjab. Along with Lala Hardayal, he also participated in revolutionary movements. As a result, the government arrested him and deported him from India. After exile, Lajpat Rai went to America and from there he continued to participate in the national movement and anti-English government activities. He also composed a book related to the pathetic condition of India which was confiscated by the government.

RETURN TO INDIA 
Lala Lajpat Rai returned to India again in 1920 AD. At that time the whole country was preparing for the non-cooperation movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. When Gandhi started his movement, Lajpat Rai participated in it and made it successful in Punjab. Enraged by his actions, the government arrested him. After being released from jail, he again became active in politics. In 1923, he was elected a member of the Central Assembly. 

He also became a member of the Swaraj Dal, but later separated from it and established a national party. In 1925, he was made the president of the Calcutta session of the Hindu Mahasabha. In 1928, when a plan was made to boycott the Simon Commission, Lala also participated in it. He led the anti-Simon Commission procession in Lahore. The police lathicharged the protesters. Due to this Lala Lajpat Rai got hurt on his head. Due to this injury, he died on November 17, 1928. The whole country was shocked by his untimely death. Lala Lajpat Rai has a valuable contribution in the Indian freedom struggle.
